The One Whe Opened Her Eyes

The cabin was supposed to be a joke.

A weekend dare. A place whispered about in school hallways — the cabin where the ground never warms, where animals won’t cross the clearing, where someone once heard a voice under the floorboards.

But teenagers don’t believe in warnings. Not until they’re too late.

Arman, Jace, Mia, Lila, and Rowan arrived just before sunset, laughing, loud, careless. The cabin looked dead — wood blackened with age, windows fogged from the inside, the forest pressing in like it wanted to swallow the place whole.

Inside, the air was wrong. Heavy. Thick. Like breathing through someone else’s lungs.

But they stayed.

They always stay.

THE FIRST SIGN

It started with Lila.

She kept rubbing her temples, saying she heard something — a faint scratching behind the walls. Everyone brushed it off. Old cabins make noise. Mice. Wind. Whatever.

But that night, when the others were asleep, Lila sat up in her sleeping bag with eyes wide open, pupils blown black.

She whispered to the dark:

“I hear you. I’ll let you in.”

No one heard her voice change. No one saw her smile twist.

No one saw the shadow behind her slip into her mouth like smoke.

THE SECOND SIGN

At breakfast, Lila didn’t blink.

Not once.

Her head tilted at strange angles, like she was listening to something only she could hear. When Rowan joked that she looked possessed, Lila turned to him slowly, her neck cracking like dry sticks.

“Possessed?” she repeated, voice layered with something deeper. “Not yet.”

She smiled. Her teeth looked… sharper.

THE NIGHT EVERYTHING BROKE

The power went out first.

Then the scratching started again — not in the walls this time.

Inside the cabin.

Jace grabbed a flashlight. The beam shook in his hand as he whispered, “Lila? Lila, where are you?”

A voice answered from the ceiling.

“I’m right here.”

They looked up.

Lila was clinging to the rafters like a spider, limbs bent wrong, head hanging upside down. Her hair dangled, brushing the floor. Her eyes were pure black.

She dropped.

Not fell — dropped, like something released her.

She landed silently.

Then she lunged.

THE HUNT

The cabin became a maze of screams and slamming doors. Lila moved too fast, too quiet, crawling along walls, appearing in corners, whispering things that weren’t human.

“Let me open you.” “Let me see what’s inside.” “You’re already dead. You just haven’t stopped moving yet.”

One by one, she hunted them.

Rowan was dragged under the bed. Jace was pulled into the fireplace, leaving claw marks on the stone. Mia tried to run into the woods — but the woods pushed her back, branches twisting around her ankles, delivering her to Lila like an offering.

Soon only Arman remained.

THE FINAL MOMENT

He barricaded himself in the bathroom, shaking, holding a broken piece of mirror like a weapon. The door rattled as Lila scratched at it, humming a low, guttural tune.

“Arman,” she crooned. “You were always my favorite.”

Silence.

Then a whisper came from behind him.

“Open your eyes.”

He turned.

Lila was already inside.

Her smile stretched impossibly wide as she crawled toward him, bones cracking, joints bending, her voice layered with a hundred others.

“You should never have come here.”

The mirror slipped from his hand.

The lights flickered once.

And the cabin went quiet.
